Carlos Tavarez RN, CTRN, CEN, TCRN, CFRN, CPEN, LNC, NREMT-P,CCP-C,FP-C,EMT-T,WEMT is a motivational speaker, seminar leader, and nurse consultant with over 20 years of paramedic experience, and 14 years of nursing experience. Carlos obtained his degree in nursing from Excelsior College and BSN from Columbia College. He also received his certification as a Legal Nurse Consultant from The University of Central Florida. Carlos works as a flight nurse with the Orlando Health “Air Care Flight Team.” Carlos retired after 20 years with the Orlando Fire Department. He now works as a Firefighter/Paramedic with the City of Lake Mary Fire Department. He stays clinically active as a bedside nurse by working in the Orlando Regional emergency department. Carlos is the Medical Manager and Medical Specialist for the Central Florida Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 4 as well as the Owner/CEO, Primary Educator and Seminar Leader for The Rescue Company 1 LLC.

Trisha Rhea has been practicing nursing for over 20 years and is Board Certified in Emergency Nursing. She has an extensive background in emergency medicine, Ultrasound, IV Team Nurse, and Critical Care Emergency Transport.
Medical Director
Benjamin Abo
DO, EMT-P, EMTT, FAWM
Dr. Benjamin N. Abo has come on board to be our new Medical Director & CMO. Dr. Abo started in EMS Mount Laurel EMS as a teenager in high school. After studying Emergency Medicine while working as a paramedic at the University of Pittsburgh, where he obtained his NREMT-P, CCEMT-P, and FP-C, he stayed on as faculty for the Center for Emergency Medicine and University of Pittsburgh Department of Emergency Medicine as a researcher and Coordinator of Education in International Emergency Medicine/EMS. He then spent some time abroad living in India just prior to starting medical school in the San Francisco bay area. Graduating with honors from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine – California, he took time off prior to residency to start a non-profit in Africa aimed at decreasing maternal and neonatal mortality and trauma. He completed a four year emergency medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center – Miami Beach and Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, FL, while completing a fellowship in wilderness medicine through the Wilderness Medical Society. After residency, Dr. Abo completed an EMS fellowship at the University of Florida where he then accepted a full-time position. Throughout all of his training, Dr. Abo has remained clinically active in EMS FL-5 DMAT disaster team, FEMA/Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) Task Force 1 (FLTF1). He has also remained active as a paramedic with various services globally and continues to do research and lecture globally. This included being Assistant Medical Director for Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue prior to the merger, Primary Investigator/Medical Director for Venom 1 & Venom 2 Units, Associate Medical Director of Lake County Emergency Services, Associate Medical Director of Technical Rescue to Medical Director for Gainesville Fire Rescue, one of the only four instructors for the Wilderness EMS Medical Directors Course, Medical Director for Sanibel & Captiva Fire Districts, and honorary medical director of the Surfer’s Medical Association. Dr. Abo has authored numerous chapters including multiple chapters in Wilderness EMS textbooks. He currently oversees medical direction and consultation for a number of projects, services, EMS schools, and media production including Shark Week and Kings of Pain. He has a strong interest in anything EMS, toxinology/venoms, EMS for children, international EM/EMS, mentorship, resiliency and sustainability in emergency services, disaster medicine, educational and experiential processes, wilderness/austere medicine and technical rescue practices. Dr. Abo is an innovator in Emergency and Pre-Hospital Medicine, and we are ecstatic to have him as one of our medical directors and CMO.

Robbie Tester

Robbie is an outstanding instructor with over 12 years of EMS and flight medicine experience. Robbie received his BS in criminology from Florida State University and his Critical Care Paramedic Certification from the University of Florida. Additionally, Robbie previously held the position of Firefighter/Paramedic with Marion County Fire Rescue for over 10 years. Robbie currently works as a Flight Paramedic with The Air Care Team in Orlando, FL as well as serving as an adjunct EMS instructor at First Coast Technical College in St. Augustine, Fl. These roles allow Robbie to stay up to date with current treatments and technology while helping him to provide a first-class learning experience for all students. In his spare time, Robbie enjoys carving small animals from driftwood he finds while walking the beach.

Jimmy Reyes

Jimmy Reyes works for the City of Orlando Fire Department as a firefighter/EMT-B. He is currently assigned to Tower 1, which is a special operations unit that includes dive rescue. Additionally, Jimmy was one of the FIRST EMS professionals to respond to the Pulse Nightclub Shooting in 2016. That horrific morning Jimmy selflessly put himself in harms way to help save the lives of many victims. For the past six years Jimmy has worked for an offshore boat racing series as a rescue diver. In his spare-time Jimmy is working on a Sci-Fi novel featuring epic battles between unknown species across the galaxy.

With over 22 years of high volume emergency services experience, Pablo is an avid enthusiast of anything in Emergency and Critical Care medicine. Pablo holds instructor disciplines in AHA and NAEMT courses. You can typically find Pablo riding an AMR Ambulance in the City of Orlando waiting to save a life. At AMR, Pablo has served many roles in his 15 yrs with the company from Field Supervision to Field Training and mentorship as well as Critical Care paramedicine, though he thoroughly has a passion for serving the community on the streets where he is closest to those in need. In his spare time, Pablo enjoys riding his motorcycle all over the US collecting patches as he rides the roadways of our beautiful country. In his spare time, Pablo enjoys going to coffee shops and reading his emotionally thought-provoking poetry on open mic nights.
