HEALTH PROFESSIONALS PARAMEDIC PREPARATION PROGRAM

If you are a registered nurse or physician looking to take steps to become a certified paramedic, consider this two-week prep-course. This class will focus on:

  • Advanced patient assessment

  • Advanced ventilation and airway procedures

  • Out-of-hospital medications

  • EMS patient transportation equipment

  • Advanced cardiac assessment and treatment modalities

  • Assessment and care of out-of-hospital trauma emergencies

  • Assessment and care of out-of-hospital medical emergencies

 

National Exam Preparation

This course builds on your existing knowledge and skills in the clinical critical care environment to prepare you to deliver out-of-hospital emergency care. During this class you will engage in didactic and practical skills sessions during the day. In the evenings and over the weekend, you will participate in field internships with local 911 providers. Additional out-of-hospital patient contacts may be required for you to successfully complete the course.

REQUIREMENTS

  • You must be an RN, APRN, PA, MD or DO in good standing with current licensure.

  • You are required to have EMT certification at either the national or state level

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers or equivalent. (BOTH CAN BE TAKEN WITH CLASS)

  • As a student in this class you must comply with the immunization requirements

  • Health Professional Licensure – A Florida licensed physician, physician assistant, dentist, or registered nurse may apply for certification as a paramedic and subsequently challenge the paramedic exam, provided he/she holds a Florida EMT certificate which is current and in good standing  and has successfully completed an advance cardiac life support course. You must indicate your current EMT certificate number for us to verify your certification and standing.

  • NOTE: If you were initially trained in Florida, received Florida licensure/certification, but did not maintain the license/certification (null and void), you may apply by Out of State Certification

  • Submit a copy of one of the following to the Certification Unit:

  • American Heart Association ACLS card; or equivalent certification from an organization (pdf) approved by the Bureau of EMS department pursuant to 64E-2.038, Florida Administrative Code. Note: The copy must be of both sides with a signature.
